Some Food for Thought

I spend a lot of time thinking about food.
Maybe it is a trend when you hit your 30s but suddenly, I am hyper aware of the ingredients on the package label. How many of the ingredients are chemicals or other names for sugar? This notion makes me laugh because in college the Dons and dino nugs were the cornerstones of my survival. I have since learned that sucralose and its many devilish forms are the root of all evil.
If I have the time, resources, and wherewithal that day – my preference is to make something homemade. I really enjoy cooking and entertaining. Bringing people together over good food and drinks in a comfortable space to spark conversion – well this might even be my love language.
It also may just be my curated feed, but does it feel like everyone else is also putting food under a microscope? Pun might be intended. I think its awesome that as a society we are taking a closer look at the things we put into our bodies; however, I don’t think we have to put so much pressure on ourselves either. I am crunchy enough to make my own hummus, use non-toxic beauty products and opt for grass fed grass finished beef directly from a local farmer; BUT scrunchy enough to order a medium Hazelnut coffee from Dunkin twice a week and load that bad boy with cream and sugar (sucralose, I know) while I drive around in my gas guzzling F150.
What is always comes back to is continuing to educate ourselves. For now, I will keep toeing that sweet line of balance with food.
